MPP DUNLOP CALLS ON PROVINCE TO ADD SUPPORT FOR LAKEHEAD

(Orillia) – Simcoe North MPP Garfield Dunlop is calling on the provincial government to come up with funding for the Orillia Campus of Lakehead University.

Dunlop was among dignitaries on hand today as the federal government through Industry Minster Tony Clement and Simcoe North MP Bruce Stanton, gave Lakehead University’s Orillia Campus, $13 million, towards its phase one construction project.

“I congratulate the federal government for coming through with this funding, said Dunlop. “It shows their leadership in providing funds for such a worthy project.”

“I am also calling on the Ontario government to provide matching funds as soon as possible,” Dunlop added. “It is important the province assist Lakehead University along with the federal government and the City of Orillia, in making this university project prosper, to create economic wealth in the area.”

The Lakehead University-Orillia Campus is now operating out of Heritage Place in downtown Orillia. Construction is underway on a permanent campus which is slated to open in September 2010.
