MPP DUNLOP CALLS ON MCGUINTY TO MAKE CAPLAN RESIGN
Ontarians scratch and loose under McGuinty Liberals.

(Queen’s Park) – Simcoe North MPP Garfield Dunlop today said Dalton McGuinty should do the honourable thing and ask David Caplan, the Minister responsible for Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG), to resign.

“Dalton McGuinty has a responsibility to all Ontarians to do the honourable thing and urge his Minister to resign,” said Dunlop. “It’s been proven that Minister Caplan was asleep at the switch and as a result, Ontario’s lottery system is in shambles.”

Dunlop pointed to media reports this morning that Dalton McGuinty’s advisors were behind an attempt to attack the credibility of allegations surrounding the lottery scandal instead of fixing the problem. The report comes after another media report yesterday that the McGuinty Minister knew about the issues at OLG at least six months before he said he did.

When Dalton McGuinty was in opposition he is on record numerous times calling for the resignations of various cabinet ministers for incidents that McGuinty felt were contrary to the role model a cabinet minister must exhibit. Now he is determined to protect a cabinet minister who clearly, under his watch has witnessed “Lotto gate” unroll.

Cabinet ministers such as Rob Sampson, Bob Runciman and Jim Wilson stepped aside for what one would call miniscule incidents in comparison to the McGuinty “Lotto gate”. For example Rob Sampson resigned from cabinet because another MPP read out the name of a young offender in the legislature.

“It is clear that Dalton McGuinty is determined to duck this very serious situation by his absence in the Legislature this week,” said Dunlop. “On behalf of all Ontarians he must do what is right and demand the resignation of Caplan.”
