DUNLOP ANNOUNCES CONTRACTORS
FOR LOCAL
HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS
For Immediate Release
June 11, 2003 (Queen's Park) - Simcoe North
MPP Garfield Dunlop announced today that two contracts
have been awarded for local highway construction
projects.
The first contract, awarded to Arnill Construction
Ltd., will involve structure rehabilitation of
the Highway 400 northbound lanes over Highway
12, near Waubaushene. The Eves government will
invest $1.7 million in this project. Construction
is scheduled to begin on June 23 and is expected
to be completed this fall.
Under the second contract, the Eves government
will invest $6.3 million for the rehabilitation
of Highway 93 from .22 kilometres north of Simcoe
County Road 27 northerly, to .26 kilometres south
of Highway 12, for a distance of about 10.9 kilometres.
This project will also cover repairs to the Wye
River bridge, including the addition of sidewalk;
extension of the northbound truck climbing lane
north of Wyebridge; and construction of a left-turn
lane at the entrance to the Brooklea Golf &
Country Club.
Work under the second contract, awarded to K.J.
Beamish Construction Company Ltd., is scheduled
to start June 16 and end in the summer of 2004.
"It is important for my constituents who
travel these roads to know that these projects
are now moving forward," said Dunlop. "Improved
highways are safer highways, not only for local
residents, but also for commuters and visitors."
