DUNLOP: KWINTER’S GROW
OPS ANNOUNCEMENT
NOTHING MORE THAN A “DELAY TACTIC”
For Immediate Release
January 28, 2004 (Queen’s Park) –
Garfield Dunlop, P.C. Critic for Community Safety
and Correctional Services, today criticized Minister
Kwinter for announcing yet another Liberal consultation.
This time, the Liberals will seek direction at
a two-day summit on combating marijuana grow operations
in Ontario.
“This is just a delay tactic to avoid keeping
Liberal election promises to Ontarians,”
said Dunlop. “We already know what police
services need to fight this problem – more
resources.”
Dunlop noted that the Liberal Plan that brought
the new McGuinty government to power includes
two promises that would help address problems
associated with marijuana grow operations:
· “We will put 1,000 more cops on
the street”; and
· “We will give additional resources
to Ontario’s police intelligence services.
(The Liberal Plan, “Growing Strong Communities”,
page 23.)
“Minister Kwinter should just get on with
the job of keeping these promises,” said
Dunlop. “We don’t need another consultation
to tell us something we already know.”
