DUNLOP AWARDED FOR FURTHERING
TECHNOLOGICAL EDUCATION
For Immediate Release
May 21, 2004 (Queen’s Park) –
The Ontario Council for Technology Education (OCTE)
has awarded its 2004 Certificate of Appreciation
to Simcoe North MPP Garfield Dunlop. The certificate
was presented to Dunlop at the 2004 OCTE Annual
Conference held in Alliston on May 14.
“It was an honour and privilege to receive
this award,” said Dunlop. “I am pleased
yet humbled that the work I previously undertook
to help renew technological education in Ontario
has been recognized.”
In April 2002, as Parliamentary Assistant to
the Minister of Education, Dunlop prepared an
extensive report entitled “Technological
Education in Ontario’s Public Schools: Contributing
to a Skilled Workforce”. The report was
written after a series of consultations with numerous
stakeholders including parents, schools, school
boards, trade and professional associations, community
colleges, faculties of education, research organizations,
business representatives and employers.
Results from this report were reflected in the
last budget of former Premier Ernie Eves and the
recent McGuinty budget.
