DUNLOP WELCOMES FUNDING FOR
LOCAL SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT
For Immediate Release
April 25, 2005 (Queen’s Park) –
Simcoe North MPP Garfield Dunlop today announced
that the Township of Severn will receive up to
$1,066,666 from both the provincial and the federal
government to upgrade the Coldwater Sewage Treatment
Plant under the Canada-Ontario Municipal Rural
Infrastructure Fund (COMRIF).
“I am pleased that Municipal Affairs Minister
John Gerretsen recognized the importance of this
project to the local area,” said Dunlop.
“For both health and safety reasons, it
is critical to keep our sewage treatment facilities
in top working condition.”
Under COMRIF, the Township of Severn is also
required to contribute up to one-third of the
project’s total eligible cost.
The next round of COMRIF funding – “Intake
Two” – will be launched in the coming
weeks and eligible municipalities will be informed
of application details at that time. COMRIF seeks
to improve the quality of life for Ontarians by
giving municipalities the tools they need to improve
local roads, bridges, waste management processes,
sewage systems, water supply systems and other
local infrastructure.
