TWO YEARS AND ZERO NEW OFFICERS
ON STREETS
McGuinty Liberals have ignored escalating gun crime
and we’re seeing the results
October 25th, 2005 (Queen’s Park) –
The McGuinty Liberals’ inaction and neglect
in dealing with escalating gun crime is not going
to be fixed through another photo op or more promises,
Community Safety Critic Garfield Dunlop said today.
“We’ve seen a pathetic Summer of
Silence from the McGuinty Liberals while gun violence
has ravaged Toronto,” said Dunlop. “Dalton
McGuinty has barely said a word about guns –
how can we believe his government truly understands
the need to act?”
So far this year there have been 64 homicides
in Toronto, 44 as a result of shootings. The following
is the number of new police officers Dalton McGuinty
has put on the streets after well over two years
in government:
0
“Empty words from the Attorney General
are not going to stop the gun violence in Toronto
and around the province,” said Attorney
General Critic Bob Runciman. “Michael Bryant
pretended he was taking action almost two months
ago and we’ve seen no follow-through and
no details. How can we believe anything he says
today?”
Attorney General Michael Bryant’s announcement
on September 1st promised a gun amnesty program
and a “blitz” of gun store inspections.
We’ve heard nothing about either of those
programs since.
