DUNLOP QUESTIONS MINISTER ON STATUS OF HIGHWAY 12

November 2, 2005

(Queen’s Park) – Simcoe North MPP Garfield Dunlop is pleased with the response he has received from Minister of Transportation Harinder Takhar following questioning last week at the Standing Committee on Estimates.

Dunlop, who is the Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Estimates questioned Minister Takhar on the timeframe required to rehabilitate Highway 12 between Coldwater and Orillia. The Ministry of Transportation has responded that the project is a candidate to proceed to construction in the spring of 2006.

“I am pleased that the Ministry of Transportation has now set a goal of the spring of 2006 to proceed to construction on this important project,” said Dunlop. “Without question, my office received more complaints about the condition of Highway 12 between Coldwater and Orillia than all other municipal, county, and provincial roads in my riding combined. The condition of Highway 12 has become a public safety issue as well. With increased traffic volumes, not only do we need a better conditioned road but we must have improved truck lanes and turning lanes as well. I will continue to pressure the Ministry of Transportation to have this project proceed as quickly as possible.”
