PREMIER AND MINISTER ‘MISSING
IN ACTION’ ON COLLEGE FILE
March 16th 2006 (Queen’s Park) –
Simcoe North MPP Garfield Dunlop today criticized
Colleges Minister Chris Bentley for making an
announcement two weeks too late about sitting
down for an assessment with parties involved in
the current colleges strike.
“It isn’t just coincidence that the
Minister’s call for a meeting comes on the
same day that college students and OPSEU faculty
members are protesting at Queen’s Park,”
said Dunlop. “The Premier and the Minister
have been missing in action on this file from
Day One, waiting on the sidelines to react only
if and when necessary.”
“The Minister had no problem coming out
of hiding eight days ago to announce a tuition
increase on the second day of the strike,”
added Dunlop, “so why didn’t he make
today’s announcement at that time, instead
of wasting more precious time getting students
back in the classroom?”
Recently, Dunlop visited the picket lines at
the Georgian College campuses in Barrie, Midland
and Orillia. He also attended today’s rally
in front of the Ontario legislature organized
by the College Student Alliance.
