DUNLOP COMMENDS AWARD-WINNING
SUPERJAIL PARTNERSHIP
For Immediate Release
November 26, 2002
QUEEN'S PARK – In a Member's Statement delivered
today in the Ontario legislature, Simcoe North
MPP Garfield Dunlop congratulated the Ministry
of Public Safety and Security and Management and
Training Corporation Canada (MTCC) for receiving
the prestigious Gold Award for Service Delivery.
The award was presented by the Canadian Council
for Public-Private Partnerships in recognition
of the innovation and excellence in service delivery
at the Central North Correctional Centre (CNCC)
in Penetanguishene.
"This award comes only one year after the
Superjail opened its doors," said Dunlop.
"It is a fitting tribute to the high level
of ongoing cooperation between the Ministry, MTCC
and the Penetanguishene community."
The Superjail is Canada's first publicly-owned,
privately-operated adult correctional facility.
MTCC manages the Superjail, while the Ministry
of Public Safety and Security ensures that MTCC
meets the high safety and security standards that
apply to the operation of all correctional facilities
in the province.
"This facility represents a win-win situation
for everyone involved," said Dunlop. "Even
the inmates, who benefit from rehabilitation programs,
and the people in the community, who benefit from
more jobs and increased business."
