MCGUINTY’S PROROGATION KILLS BILL 32
Dunlop’s Site 41 Bill Killed By Liberals
(Orillia) –Simcoe North MPP Garfield Dunlop is furious that Dalton McGuinty is proroguing the Ontario legislature effective today, for four days.
“The Premier insists nothing will be lost because of prorogation, saying every single one of their bills will be preserved, but he neglected to mention the fact that a number of Private Member Bills including Bill 32 will be lost,” said Dunlop. “McGuinty’s decision to pull the plug is disappointing for not only me, but the thousands of constituents in Simcoe North who have worked so hard with me on Bill 32: An Act to prevent the disposal of waste at Site 41, Tiny Township.”
Bill 32, Simcoe North MPP Garfield Dunlop’s Private Member’s Bill – that would revoke the Site 41 Certificate of Approval – unanimously passed second reading in the Ontario Legislature last November.
McGuinty’s decision to prorogue the Ontario Legislature over this weekend not only kills Bill 32 but kills many other valuable Private Members’ Bills on the order paper. Several of them have passed second reading and are ready to go to committee.
“McGuinty has the authority to keep these bills alive, and not doing so is a slap in the face to the many people who have worked so hard and given a lot of time and effort to many worthwhile causes such as Site 41,” said Dunlop.
MPP Dunlop plans to reintroduce Bill 32 as soon as the legislature resumes sitting.
“Dalton McGuinty’s tactics will not deter our efforts to remove the Certificate of Approval on Site 41,” added Dunlop.
