(Orillia): Simcoe North MPP Garfield Dunlop is encouraging residents and community and volunteer organizations to identify nominees for the Minster of Environment Award for Environmental Excellence and the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration’s Newcomer Champion Awards.
The Minister’s Award for Environmental Excellence recognizes outstanding achievement by Ontario companies, organizations and individuals. Applicants must demonstrate how their activities benefit the environment or foster environmental behaviour change. For 2011, awards are focused on water and toxics reduction. However, the ministry will also consider applications of environmental excellence in other areas.
The Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration’s Newcomer Champion Awards recognize individuals and groups who have made a difference in their community and province through active citizenship and engagement. Award recipients are champions of voluntarism, proud supporters of newcomers, and advocates of greater social and civic inclusion. The awards were created in 2007 and expanded in 2011 to include three categories: Community Leader, Newcomer Champion and Change the World Youth Ambassador.
“I would be pleased and honoured to nominate individuals or groups in my riding for these most prestigious awards,” said Dunlop. “I encourage individuals and community groups to contact my office in Orillia or Midland for the list of criteria and necessary forms. I will gladly forward them to the appropriate Ministry.”
The deadline for nominations for the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration’s Newcomer Champion Awards is April 29, 2011. The deadline for applications for the Minister’s Award for Environmental Excellence is May 6, 2011.
