MPP DUNLOP: “TIME TO HOLD THE MCGUINTY LIBERALS ACCOUNTABLE”

PROVINCIAL LEGISLATURE TO RESUME SITTING MARCH 17

ORILLIA – Garfield Dunlop, MPP Simcoe North, today noted that after sitting only 37 hours since June 6, 2007, Premier McGuinty abruptly adjourned the legislature on the very day Minister of Citizenship, Mike Colle was to appear before the Standing Committee on Estimates to answer questions regarding the hand out of tens of millions of dollars to Liberal friendly organizations.  Since then the house has only sat for 37 hours just prior to Christmas, following the Speech from the Throne.

“It is embarrassing as a provincial politician to tell my constituents, week after week, that we are not sitting at Queen’s Park while Dalton McGuinty mismanages the Province of Ontario and its economy,” said Dunlop.  “While over 150 manufacturing jobs leave Ontario each day, it is so undemocratic that no one is able to question the McGuinty Liberals and hold them accountable on the 90 billion dollars they collect each year from the citizens of Ontario.”

Dunlop also noted that the McGuinty Liberals are also contemplating beginning Question Period each day at 9:30 a.m. which, of course, would allow fewer people, including schools to actually witness Question Period.

“Like the proposed elimination of the Lord’s Prayer from the legislature, the timing of Question Period is not broken, but the McGuinty Liberals have to find ways to divert attention from the real problems they face; the mismanagement of Ontario,” said Dunlop.
