MPP DUNLOP APPOINTED TO HUDAK’S SHADOW CABINET
(Orillia) – Leader of the Official Opposition Tim Hudak (MPP Niagara West - Glanbrook) today announced the appointment of Simcoe North MPP Garfield Dunlop to his shadow cabinet. Dunlop retains his position as Critic of Community Safety and Correctional Services and has also been named Chair of the Standing Committee on Estimates.
“I am honoured to continue in my role as Critic of Community Safety and Correctional Services,” said Dunlop. “The appointment makes perfect sense with OPP Headquarters in my riding. We also have one of the largest correctional facilities in the province, the Central North Correctional Centre in Penetanguishene which I work with as well. I also continue to foster a good relationship with area police and fire departments and paramedics,”Dunlop added.
Dunlop will also chair The Standing Committee on Estimates, which reviews and oversees spending of all provincial government ministries. “I am looking forward to chairing this committee,” said Dunlop. “Under Dalton McGuinty, Ontario’s taxes and government waste have hit new heights and being able to review the spending of all ministries from previous years and carefully reviewing planned spending for coming years will be key in turning the economy around.”
Under McGuinty’s watch, Ontario has lost 330,000 manufacturing jobs, became a have-not province, and has a record $18.5 billion provincial deficit.
“We need innovative ideas grounded in conservative principles in order to get Ontario moving”, said Tim Hudak. “Together, united and strong, we can focus on the issues that matter to middle-class families, defeat Dalton McGuinty and the Ontario Liberals, and bring prosperity to our province.”
"The people of Simcoe North are fortunate to have an MPP of the calibre of Garfield Dunlop representing them in the Ontario Legislature," Hudak added.
