DALTON McGUINTY’S TAX GRABS, RECORD DEFICITS
AND RUNAWAY SPENDING CONTRIBUTE TO 16,600 LOST JOBS
Simcoe North MPP Garfield Dunlop says McGuinty is mismanaging our tax dollars
Orillia: Statistics Canada today reported that, under Dalton McGuinty, Ontario continues to drag down
Canada’s economy. The McGuinty Government presided over the loss of 16,600 jobs in December,
by far the worst performance in the country. Over the past year, the McGuinty Liberals have
presided over the loss of 141,600 jobs. Given that the Holiday season usually produces stronger job results, December’s weak job numbers provide even more proof that Dalton McGuinty’s tax grabs, record deficits and runaway spending are driving jobs out of Ontario.
“Dalton McGuinty cannot seriously expect businesses to hire new workers when they see the
largest sales tax grab in Ontario history looming on the horizon. Dalton McGuinty’s job-killing HST
is proof that he is out of touch with Ontario families and lacks any credible plan for Ontario’s
economy,” said Simcoe North MPP Garfield Dunlop.”
“The province faces a 25 billion dollar deficit under Dalton McGuinty. The 2009 Ontario Auditor General’s Report shows the McGuinty Government continues to waste taxpayers’ money at an alarming rate. Shocking examples include everything from the E-Health Scandal, to a billion dollar boondoggle involving extravagant welfare overpayments. I am also concerned about the government’s lack of information about the state of the province’s $40-billion portfolio of social housing and whether supply is sufficient to meet the need,” added Dunlop.
Today Dalton McGuinty continues to use every opportunity to promote his record breaking HST tax
grab. While Dalton McGuinty promises that taking $3 billion out of the pockets of consumers will
somehow create jobs, the evidence is now in that businesses are, in fact, cutting jobs while the HST
looms on the horizon.
“Over the past year Dalton McGuinty has promised to create 1,064,000 new jobs through his
Budget, Green Energy Act and HST tax grab. In reality he has presided over the net loss of
141,600 jobs during that same time period. He also pushed the HST through without any public consultation or province wide hearings. While Dalton McGuinty and his elite friends force Ontario families to pay more for gas, hydro, haircuts and home heating fuel, the rest of us know that the HST is nothing more than a $3 billion tax grab that is already costing us jobs,” added Dunlop.
