MPP DUNLOP: PRIORITIES FOR SPRING SESSION OF LEGISLATURE
The Ontario Legislature resumes sitting this week and the PC Caucus will use the spring session to build on the successes we had in the fall and continue to hold the tired-out, out-of-gas McGuinty administration accountable for their scandals and waste.
Our three priorities for this spring are: Fighting for more jobs and a stronger economy. Demanding more accountability and answers from Dalton McGuinty’s scandal-plagued administration and defending Ontario families who are struggling with a rising cost of living.
Our caucus is also calling for a new direction in the 2010 budget including: targeted tax relief to create jobs, spending restraint capped at the levels in last year’s budget and a freeze on job killing regulations until a new Red Tape Commission can bring the regulatory burden back down.
The McGuinty Liberals are spending $2.8 million more than they take in every single hour. If they are allowed to continue, they are on course to double Ontario’s debt by 2012-2013. Worst of all, despite spending billions of dollars, the McGuinty Liberals still have presided over the loss of more than 140,000 jobs in 2009 alone. There is no excuse for Dalton McGuinty to hand out billions of dollars to a foreign multinational conglomerate like Samsung without the guarantee of a single Ontario job. Dalton McGuinty must also explain why he is prepared to keep handing out sweetheart deals to his foreign-based multinational corporations while Ontario businesses are left to struggle.
Thanks to Dalton McGuinty’s disastrous economic policies, the household budgets of middle class families are under siege from higher taxes, higher bills and higher insurance premiums. Dalton McGuinty’s only response to Ontario families struggling with the cost-of-living is to reach into their pockets once again through his $3 billion HST tax grab. Since coming to office Dalton McGuinty has increased personal income taxes, corporate taxes and small business taxes. On July 1st the cost of gas, hydro, home heating fuel and dozens of other everyday goods and services will also skyrocket thanks to the HST.I want to assure you I will do all I can as your member of provincial parliament to raise these concerns and hold McGuinty accountable for his disastrous tax-and-spend policies.
I would also like to take this opportunity to invite everyone to the 4th Annual Fundraising Lasagne Dinner for the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre. I am pleased to be hosting this event along with chefs Larry and Lorraine Lalonde. It will take place at Wye Marsh 16160 Highway 12 East on Friday February 26.
