Dalton McGuinty says Merry Christmas with record high consumer prices
Ontario recorded the largest increase in consumer prices in November
(Orillia): Today Statistics Canada released its November 2010 Consumer Price Index report (CPI). The report, which measures the level of inflation paid on various goods, confirms that while the rest of the country begins to recover, Ontario families were hit by a 3% increase in inflation (vs. 2% in all of Canada), making it harder and harder to live in McGuinty’s Ontario.
“In Dalton McGuinty’s Ontario, what should be up is down and what should be down is up,” said Simcoe North MPP Garfield Dunlop. “While employment insurance claims may be down, Ontario Works claims are up, taken together it shows Ontario families are struggling.”
Ontario’s consumer price index increases have been leading Canada -- that means Ontario families are sustaining price increases every month that are substantially more than those in all other provinces.
Ontarians work longer hours than most, but still struggle to provide necessities for their families. “Ontario families continue to worry about their future under the McGuinty Liberal government,” noted Dunlop.
Since 2007, Ontario has seen a sharp decline in both investment in the province and migration to the province. “It is no wonder Ontarians worry about their future and specifically job retention under this government,” added Dunlop. “The McGuinty Liberals simply do not understand what families need.”
Under the McGuinty government, Ontarians have experienced a rise in inflation, growing gasoline prices, higher energy costs, the HST, and the list goes on. “Today ’s figures continue to expose the fact that Dalton McGuinty is out of touch and out of gas,” said Dunlop. “The only thing Ontarians have received from McGuinty is a string of broken promises.”
