MPP DUNLOP: FALL TRADITIONS IN THE RIDING
I would like to thank all of those who participated in the Farm Family Appreciation Day. It was my pleasure to host this event on Sunday August 30th at the Vasey Ball Park. Over 300 people attended and were treated to great food displays and activities. Thank you so much to those who sponsored and attended to help make the day such a great success!
You may have seen the sign displayed in the window of my Orillia Constituency office which says FARMERS FEED CITIES. Farm families play a key role in all of our lives and recognizing and celebrating their efforts was a most rewarding experience.
Another way we can all show our gratitude for the farm community is by participating in the many fall fairs taking place across the region. Each year, in my capacity as the MPP for Simcoe North, my wife Jane and I participate in several local fall fairs.
The Fall Fairs are an excellent opportunity for citizens from both rural and urban communities to celebrate the agricultural heritage of rural Ontario. A visit to a Fall Fair gives all age groups the chance to see horticultural displays, horse and tractor pulls, farm livestock displays and competitions, midway games and rides, vendors and exhibitors.
You will also be greeted by assorted organizations and delicious food sold by numerous groups. So far this fall, we have been delighted to participate in fairs in Orillia, Oro-Medonte, Ramona and Coldwater.
The Elmvale Fall Fair is always held on the Friday and Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend, this year it will be October 9 and 10, complete with parade at 12 noon on Saturday. Although Elmvale is not part of my riding, Jane and I are always pleased to be asked to participate in the parade.
Another fall tradition in my riding is the Annual Senior’s Days which are fast approaching. My Annual Senior’s Information Day in Midland is October 9th, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Highland Inn. The contact for information is George Lawrence at 705-361-2456. My Annual Senior’s Information Day in Orillia is October 23rd from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at ODAS Park. The contact for information is Mary Silk at my Orillia Constituency office at 705-326-3246. The Seniors Days offer a series of guest speakers and exhibitors that provide valuable information to those attending. I hope to see you there!
One other date I hope you will circle on your calendar is October 24th. I will be hosting a Meet and Greet at the Hawkestone Community Hall that day, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Complimentary lunch and refreshments. I hope to see you at one or all of the events.
