MPP DUNLOP HAPPY WITH BUILD CANADA AND INFRASTRUCTURE STIMULUS ANNOUNCEMENTS
In the largest-ever combined infrastructure investment in Canadian history, communities across Ontario will receive nearly $3.4 billion in joint federal-provincial-municipal funding for nearly 1,400 key infrastructure projects. $1.5 billion is being allocated in Ontario.
I am most pleased that $35 million under the Building Canada Fund goes to Simcoe North towards many worthwhile projects. The Provincial and The Federal Government will each contribute $11.8 million, the remainder of project funds will be covered by the municipalities.
In a separate announcement The County of Simcoe is receiving $18.7 million
for several projects, with The Provincial and Federal Governments share of $6.3 million each and the remainder of project costs to be covered by the County.
Funds were also announced across the region for projects under The Infrastructure Stimulus.
It is important during the current downturn in the economy that all three levels of government work together to ensure these infrastructure projects are reality.
These projects must be started this year and I hope the municipalities in my riding will ensure the projects are completed by 2011 to qualify for the infrastructure funding. This funding will also result in significant construction jobs for the region over the next year.
