TAY REPORT JULY 3, 2009

On Wednesday July 1, our country celebrated its 142nd Birthday. I hope that everyone was able to take part in a Canada Day celebration somewhere on that day. I feel that on Canada Day we should be especially proud of being a Canadian and what we represent.

In my ten years as MPP for Simcoe North, I have found that Canada Day and the few days leading up to it is the busiest time of the year. This year Jane and I participated in parades in Washago, Orillia, Midland and Bayshore Village. We also attended other Canada Day events at Horseshoe Valley, Hawkestone and Penetanguishene.

Although we have been experiencing some tough economic times, I feel we should always remember that the good things about Canada far exceed anything that is negative. We have a lot to be proud of. As we celebrate Canada Day this year it is my hope that everyone will reflect for a moment and think about those men and women who are serving in military roles around the world. Our thoughts are with them and their families.

The warmer weather we have been experiencing in recent days also serves as a prelude to what will be a busy summer of vacations, family get togethers, BBQ’s and celebrations across the country.

One such event that I look forward to is my Annual Constituency Barbecue and Family Picnic which is being held on  July 11 at the Coldwater Curling Club. It runs from 3 p.m. -7 p.m.  It gives my wife Jane and I, time to meet with the constituents of my riding and it is one event you won’t want to miss.

I encourage you to take part in any of the numerous events planned over the summer across this great riding of Simcoe North, we have a lot to celebrate and be thankful for.
