Queen’s Park Report
Let me begin by congratulating the communities in the Townships of Oro Medonte and Severn for hosting excellent Canada Day Festivities.
Jane and I were pleased to attend the Hawkestone Hall Social Time and the Barbecue held at beautiful Horseshoe Valley Resort. We also took part in Canada Day Parades in Orillia, Midland, Victoria Harbour and Washago. Events were well-attended, we had absolutely beautiful weather and it is clear that we are proud to be Canadians.
There are three things that I want to discuss in this issue of the North Simcoe News.
First, I want to thank all who came to our 8Th Annual MPP Barbecue at the Coldwater Curling Club. The Barbecue is always a time for friends to meet, enjoy entertainment and savour the good food provided by Shaw’s Catering.
Secondly, I want to congratulate the O.S.P.C.A. Midland on the opening of the beautiful new Branch Office Building. The new building is located on Highway 12 just east of Ogden’s Beach Road in the Township of Tay. As Critic for the Community Safety and Correctional Services, I work closely with animal welfare organizations on a regular basis.
On July 21, The Standing Committee on Justice Policy began hearings on Bill 50, the Provincial Animal Welfare Act 2008. Although I support Bill 50 in principal, I believe that amendments will have to be made to the legislation. Many stakeholders within the agricultural organizations, hunting, angling groups and animal welfare societies are demanding changes to the legislation.
Finally, I want to remind everyone of the Fall Fairs in our community that take place in September.
The Orillia Fall Fair takes place at ODAS Park September 5-7.
The Oro World’s Fair takes place at Oro Fairgrounds on September 12-15.
The Coldwater Fall Fair takes place September 26-28.
Try to get out and enjoy these excellent Fairs and support the agricultural community as well as our local agricultural heritage.
