SUSTAINABLE FUNDING FOR WYE MARSH PETITON BEGINS READING IN ONTARIO LEGISLATURE

(Queen’s Park) – Yesterday, Simcoe North MPP Garfield Dunlop began reading his petition in the Ontario Legislature that calls on Government of Ontario to provide long-term sustainable funding to the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre.

The Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre provides approximately 50, 000 visitors per year, including 20, 000 students, with environmental education. However; the centre receives no funding from the Ontario Government to manager over 3000 acres of provincially owned lands.

“I am pleased to have read the petitions today with over 4000 signatures from citizens across our province who agree that the Government of Ontario should properly fund the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre,” said Dunlop.  “This petition will be read into the record many times in the next few months and if the Government is responsible on environmental issues, they will respond to the petition.”

Dunlop is also sending a formal invitation to the Minister of Natural Resources, the Hon. Donna Cansfield asking her to personally visit the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre in the coming months.
