Just as Ontario families were learning about another 6% hike to their hydro bills, we now find out that they are also being stuck with an $18 million bill for fines local utilities incurred for overcharging them. Families were being charged an effective interest rate of 60% annually on late payments to their hydro bills, which is illegal under the Criminal Code. But even though the Supreme Court ruled in their favour, families still lose because they are being handed the bill.

(Orillia): Today Statistics Canada released its November 2010 Consumer Price Index report (CPI). The report, which measures the level of inflation paid on various goods, confirms that while the rest of the country begins to recover, Ontario families were hit by a 3% increase in inflation (vs. 2% in all of Canada), making it harder and harder to live in McGuinty’s Ontario.

Orillia: Statistics Canada today reported that, under Dalton McGuinty, Ontario continues to drag down Canada’s economy. The McGuinty Government presided over the loss of 16,600 jobs in December, by far the worst performance in the country. Over the past year, the McGuinty Liberals have presided over the loss of 141,600 jobs. Given that the Holiday season usually produces stronger job results, December’s weak job numbers provide even more proof that Dalton McGuinty’s tax grabs, record deficits and runaway spending are driving jobs out of Ontario.
